May is the month of the mama!  And this week’s post is directed at all the PL moms out there!  Although the team at PL believes that every single day you should show your mom how much you love and appreciate her, May is especially dedicated as the Month of the Mom.  Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday and we hope you all are going to take the day to enjoy being your amazing mama-self!  Treat yourself to an extra cuddle with your kids, soak in some bubbles, sleep in a little bit on Sunday, get a mama-loving mani/pedi, take time for yourself.  Whatever you choose to do to celebrate yourself this mother’s day, we hope you know how special you are.  You are the front line warriors, the greatest influencers, the supreme support system, the main role models, the leading ladies in your children’s’ lives.  No one could take your place.  So celebrate yourself this Mother’s Day for everything you do!

Excess, indulgence, and maybe a little bit of gluttony….now’s the time to let go a little bit and enjoy the madness of Mardi Gras! This week the party is in full swing down in New Orleans and everyone is festooned in the favored festival colors of purple, green, and gold.  Mardi Gras is a time for costumes, dancing, parades, beads, music, and, of course, overturning social conventions…now the team at PL doesn’t suggest breaking any laws or giving up all sense of yourself, but we do believe in being bold and maybe just that much more daring during these few days of celebration.  Eat a little bit more, dance when no one is watching, sing out loud, or wear that dress in your closet you’ve tried on twenty times but never worn…whatever form your brashness takes…we encourage it! Even if you’re not in New Orleans, even if you’re not a twenty-something-twinkled-eyed-college-kid, you can still bring a bit of the bayou home for Mardi Gras!  Be bold, be brazen, be a braver you!

Whether you live in Hollywood or not…this is the season of awards!  Once January hits in the city of lights, the curtain falls, voting begins, and the golden statues are handed out.  This month Los Angeles is a buzz with the Golden Globes, Sundance, Screen Actor’s Guild, Director’s Guild, Writer’s Guild, any other guild, the Critic’s Choice, Spirit Awards, AFI awards, and, of course, the ultimate Academy Awards. Whatever award show you favor, these early months of the year are filled with glamorous parties, beautiful ball gowns, tailored tuxedoes, and red carpets.  Our favorite looks this awards season are odes to a bygone era.  We especially love the dresses that pay homage to the height of Hollywood.  Jennifer Lawrence’s textured BAFTA dress and the gold and white gown worn by Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery are absolute standouts for us this season.  Instead of just watching the awards this year, the team at PL suggests hosting a little award show of your own: create a game and guess the winners of your favorite awards; decorate your table with gold leaf, glitter, and champagne to glam up your viewing party; and serve fun, spiced popcorn and other movie snacks to bring the feeling of the theater into your home.
