Celebrate…summer is here!  The sun is shining and temperatures are rising…and the kids are out of school.  Days at the beach, Bar-B-ques by the pool, sleep-away camps, road trips, vacations, Disneyland, play dates with friends…these are a few of our favorite things.  Now that we’re all grown up…maybe summer has lost some of its muster…but this week the team at PL wants to remind us all what summer is like when you’re a kid.   Summer is a special season…it’s friends and fun and festivities and freedom…no homework, no classes, no teachers, no school.  Summer is ice cream and sorbet, games in the yard, swimming lessons, carnivals, hamburgers and hot dogs…summer is a celebration.

Now even though, we love summertime…we know it also means that parents can have their hands full.  School being out also means more time at home for your kids.  So, this week we also have some fun summer-inspired fun for your family:

Healthy Frozen Fruit Pops:  Grab some 5 oz. cups from your grocery store and fill them with a variety of fruit.  For a great summer medley, try equal parts diced kiwi, watermelon, strawberries, and pineapple.  Add 1 tbsp. of orange, apple, or pineapple juice, place a popsicle stick in the center, and freeze for a few hours until your popsicles are firm.  To remove the popsicles from the cups, run under warm water for a few seconds.  And enjoy!

Fun Family Activity: Even if you have a pool or make it to the beach on a regular basis, when the summer sun is scorching sometimes there’s nothing more fun than a good old-fashioned sprinkler party.  Put on your bathing suits, blast some summertime tunes, turn those sprinklers on, and watch your kids party in the yard!
